Although I was born in Connecticut I spent most of my youth in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Attending a variety of schools gave me a chance to engage with and learn how to relate many different types of people. Graduating from Taylor-Alderdice High School in 1996, I looked west for higher education. I finally decided on Northern Arizona University, as much for the southwestern Landscapes as for the curriculum. It was in this setting that the desert first sparked in me a true interest in photography.
At NAU I was exposed to many different Disciplines through course work as well as my writing. One of my more rewarding experiences was my employment as a student writer for the Office of Public Affairs and Marketing. It was here that I was able to satisfy my curiosity by reporting on a wide range of subjects. I graduated in the fall of 2002 with the distinction of outstanding student in journalism earning bachelor of science degrees in both photography and journalism.
Since gradyating, I have Experienced a wide range of photographic environments, from newspapers to weddings and events to working as an action/portrait mountain photographer. All of these opportunities presented me with their own unique challenges that have allowed me to grow in my knowledge and execution of the photographic arts.
I believe that these are exciting times in photography but I have been learning that there is so much more. As digital photography progresses it inevitably collides with the expansion of the other digital medias. This should not be seen as a clash of disciplines, but a turbulent period of assimilation that needs to be embraced as the future of creative communication.
Presently I have settled down living and working in the beautiful city of Portland, Oregon.
